Technology is a wonderful thing and during the last 6wks the 4th grade students in our enrichment program worked hard to bring you their very OWN blog. We are VERY proud of how much work they did and how eager they were to do it! We learned the importance of self-expression, and how to communicate respectfully with our peers… we also focused on ways to share information efficiently and positively. We had so much fun using our laptops, learning about search engines, using email, taking pictures, writing creatively and meeting our deadlines! During our 6wk culmination period, the 6th-7th graders focused on employing positive and clear communication. They were interested in finding ways to solve conflicts in different settings and how to better express themselves in order to bring desired CHANGE. We fostered a ‘safe’ environment for sharing and talked about ways to build a confidence. Our main projects were creating personal blogs and filming a debate. Here’s some of our work, stories, and experiences…

What is a Debate?

Debate or debating is a formal method of interactive and representational argument. We learned beginning rules/principles and had a lot of fun learning how to be competitive, yet RESPECTFUL when arguing our different points of views.

Our debate topic was whether or not students at Camino Nuevo should wear uniforms or not. click below to see who won!!!

During this 6wk culmination period, the 7th and 8th graders of Camino Nuevo made WONDERFUL strides in areas of interpersonal communication.  Positive and clear communication was the main focus. They were interested in finding ways to solve conflicts in different settings and how to better express themselves in order to bring desired change. We fostered a ‘safe’ environment for sharing and talked about ways to build a confidence within oneself.  We filmed a debate, learned how to ‘vote’, take polls, expressed ourselves through letters and creative stories/writing.

During our last culmination period, the 3rd grade Communication students presented a ‘special edition’ newsletter, ‘Bullying in our Schools’. This was a major topic for the students in our program and they were particularly engaged in finding answers/solutions for those affected. We discussed ways in which we can use effective communication to make improvements and initiate positive change in our society, not just for bullying, but for any other problems we may experience. Respectful one-on- one (interpersonal) communication was highlighted, as well as using the mass media to share, connect, and collaborate with our world. Here is our newsletter, and ‘our stories’.
